Thousands of Virginia Tech football fans made the trip to New Orleans ahead of Tuesday night's BCS Allstate Sugar Bowl game against Michigan.

It's more than 800 miles from Blacksburg to 'The Big Easy,' but on Monday afternoon it sure felt like a home game.  More than 1,000 Hokie fans packed the French Quarter for a pep rally.

Tech cheerleaders, the Hokie Bird, and the Marching Virginians kept everyone entertained.  Chants of "let's go, Hokies!" roared through the crowd.

The show of support is important, given most in New Orleans estimate that the Wolverines brought more support than the Hokies.

"You know the teams love it when they feel like they're at home," said Andrew Gaspar, a Virginia Tech alumnus.  "They can't be at home anywhere but Blacksburg, but we can help them a little bit."

Fans of all ages came showing and wearing their support.  Anthony and Kerri Gray brought their two-year-old daughter Sydney, so she can see what the couple hopes will be a Virginia Tech victory.  This is Sydney's first bowl game, and her parents say the Hokies may need her "good luck" Tuesday night.

"We didn't want to make this trip without her so it was a given," said Anthony Gray, a Tech alumnus.  "She's our good luck charm.  She was at the Miami game, so she's going to bring us good luck against the Wolverines here tomorrow night (Tuesday)."

The members of the Hokie Nation who traveled to New Orleans hope their support will help energize a Tech victory.
