Mike Barber has joined the Richmond Times-Dispatch sports department to cover Virginia Tech athletics, beginning with Sunday's men's basketball game against Boston College.
Before joining the Times-Dispatch, Barber covered James Madison football for nine years at the Daily News-Record in Harrisonburg, where he also was the assistant sports editor.
Barber, a 2001 Rutgers University graduate, previously worked at Major League Baseball's publishing department in New York and interned at The Star-Ledger in Newark, N.J.
A native of Park Ridge, N.J., the 33-year-old Barber lives in Blacksburg with his beagle, Seven. He also is part-owner of a Harrisonburg restaurant, The Corner, scheduled to open later this month.
