He's not the biggest, he's not the fastest, and he's certainly not the flashiest receiver to ever catch a pass at Virginia Tech. However, Danny Coale is on the verge of leaving Blacksburg as one of the best to ever play the position. As a little known high school recruit out of Lexington, there were very few people who had high expectations for the 6-foot tall Coale. That did not stop number 19 from having high personal goals. "I thought to myself, one day when I run out of the tunnel, I hope I look back on a pretty good career. I have just tried to go out and really work hard to produce and be productive and to play my hardest. I always had expectations for myself," said Coale.
Those expectations have led to a career that may be unmatched at Virginia Tech. In his time here, he has put up great stats, 149 catches and almost 25-hundred yards receiving. He is second all-time in those categories. This season, the senior could become the record holder in yards for a single season. "He's dependable. He came in there and returned some punts for us a couple of games ago. He is just a guy, that you feel very confident in and you know what you are gonna get with him. He's not an up and down guy. He is and effort guy and one who is gonna play very consistently. He has been a great part of our program, and meant alot to our program here at Virginia Tech," said Head Coach Frank Beamer.
That may be what Coale values most... being a Hokie. That's why when he takes the field tonight in front of a sold-out Lane Stadium for the last time, the emotions will be strong. "It's gonna be a special moment. I think as a class we have had alot of special moments inside that stadium and with those fans. This whole community has been so special to us as a class and to me. I am just looking forward to going out and playing my hardest one more time for them," said Coale.
